After a one-year hiatus, WinSport Canada in partnership with the Speed and Longboard Association of Calgary (SLAC) is proud to bring back the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo at Canada Olympic Park July 24th-26th, 2009.
This event is free to the public and features our dynamic, switch-back course known for its smooth ride, sharp turns and ridiculous speed. Six turns, intense straight-aways and the occasional speed bump make the ride down an absolute thrill, but the quick ride back up on our high-speed quad chair is what makes our course one of the finest in the world.
The event in 2007 saw speeds of 84.6 KMPH (52 MPH) in stand-up longboard qualifying and it is expected that that this year longboarders will exceed 90 KMPH (56 MPH)
The previous Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo registered more than 150 racers from around the world and this year’s event is expected to draw more than double that number making the 3rd edition of the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo one of the largest competitions in the history of skateboard gravity sports.
In the past, the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo has attracted racers from five Canadian provinces and one territory (Alberta, BC, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, North West Territories), as well as racers from all over the United States (Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Texas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico), and seven other countries including Germany, Switzerland, England, Norway, Africa, Brazil and New Zealand.
While previous years have required these out of town riders to find off-site accommodations, this year’s event will include camping, late-night bonfires, athlete meals and nightly entertainment sure to thrill.
Details surrounding the Friday night and Saturday night party will be posted here as bands and DJ’s and event sponsors are confirmed.
